    Softshell je funkční látka, která je do určité míry voděodolná a chrání proti větru. Zároveň je měkká, jemná a paropropustná.

    Známe softshell jarní (středně silný softshell s vnitřní stranou obvykle z polyesteru nebo bavlny), letní (slabý softshell většinou bez vnitřní úpravy), zimní (silnější softshell se zateplenou vnitřní stranou, obvykle fleecem).

    Díky své funkčnosti, odolnosti, dobré manipulaci a  ceně stal oblíbeným materiálem pro domácí šití oděvů. Ušít si můžete bundy, kabáty, vesty, kalhoty, ale i rukavice, návleky, tašky, batohy. Pruží jen lehce a hotové výrobky proto dobře drží tvar, nevytahují se.

    Ze softshellu lze šít na běžných domácích šicích strojích. Chcete-li dosáhnout 100 % nepromokavosti svých oděvů, je potřeba při šití podlepit švy speciální páskou. Sledovanými parametry při koupi by měla být voděodolnost a paropropustnost.
